Hospitality Controller

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Hospitality Controller will be a member of the leadership team on behalf of the financial team and will report directly to the CFO of Hegg Hospitality Management. Their functions will include financial reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, and at times processing of day to day operation accounting entries. This is a full-time position within our corporate office in Sioux Falls, SD.

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Establish accounting processes and procedures related to the accounting of property level accounting.
  • Oversight of accounting processes and procedures for property level accounting.
  • Preparation, distribution, and issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the CFO.
  • Monitoring of operational expenses and making recommendations to leadership team for areas of improvement.
  • Assist general managers in monthly forecasting.
  • Assist the CFO in preparation of annual hotel budgets.
  • Complete and review monthly reconciliations.
  • Maintain and review schedules for property, plant, and equipment in accordance with Tax accounting standards.
  • Provide guidance, training, and development of other hospitality accounting team members.
  • Calculation and review of sales tax returns for multiple states.
  • Perform internal audits on areas of accounting as necessary, such as A/R, cash receipts, sales tax, etc.
  • Provide support in calculating debt covenants and submit to the CFO for review (quarterly basis).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of 5 years in hospitality accounting or accounting manager or supervisory role required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting required. Masters and CPA preferred, but not required.
  • Great communication skills and the ability to work with multiple individuals within the organization.
  • Great multi-tasking skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • High problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic corporation

Hegg Family Accountant

The Hegg Family Accountant is responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer with all duties and functions required for efficient operation of the Hegg Family Accounting. This a part-time position at our corporate office in Sioux Falls, SD. The position reports to the CFO.

I – Maintains accounting processes and practices and delivers financial statements when applicable that record and track all accounting transactions for Hegg Family Entities and Peter Hegg on a timely and accurate basis to ensure ongoing Hegg Family stability and viability

  1. Accurately record all accounting transactions in the accounting system (cash receipts and disbursements, sales, accruals and other accounting transactions). Record and pay accounts payable on a weekly basis. Perform cash outlook reports for the CFO on a bi-weekly basis.
  2. Generate supporting documentation for financial statements and prepare financial statement reports on a monthly/quarterly basis for review by the CFO and Property Manager. Manage and reconcile all bank accounts as agreed to with the CFO and Property Manager.
  3. Calculate and file all Sales & Use returns as required.
  4. Prepare and maintain schedules for property, plant and equipment for various entities.
  5. Prepare all schedules for completion of the year end tax returns.
  6. Prepare annual budgets based on information received from the CFO and prepare monthly budget to actual reports for presentation to the Property Manager and CFO.
  7. Prepare special reports for multiple entities based on guidance from the CFO and Property Manager.

II – Responsible for maintaining accounting processes and practices to record and track development transactions on a timely basis to ensure development objectives are met

  1. Accurately record all development transactions in the accounting system (construction draw requests).
  2. Prepare and distribute special reports to the CFO as required.
  3. Calculate and file all sales and use tax returns as required.
  4. Prepare and maintain schedules for property, plant, and equipment for various entities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • 2-3 years accounting/bookkeeping experience
  • Demonstrated excellent organization skills
  • Self-starter
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task while prioritizing projects.
